Made for cutting, the U-No-Kubi Tanto is a meticulously constructed larger tanto with the impressive and difficult to create U-No-Kubi cutback edge. This is the perfect tanto to replace the wakizashi for those seeking a smaller companion piece. The slightly larger size of this tanto is great for tanto-jutsu and tameshigiri. All tanto are available in your choice of hand cast tanto size fittings, tsuka color and wrap style and same color (ray-skin). This blade is also available in historically accurate and subtly beautiful Tamahagane steel.

These blades are made using what we refer to as the "Kasane Tetsu" method of construction. The tanto blade is formed utilizing multiple high carbon steels specifically selected to recreate and enhance the characteristics of historical blades. The different steels are stacked in layers and forge welded to form a sword billet. The billet is then heated and drawn out, split and then folded back on itself multiple times creating a 9000 plus layer blade with strength and beauty. The precision with which the steel is folded, hammered and forge-welded determines the distinctive grain patterns in the blade known as “hada” (jihada). Finally, the blade is hand coated with clay, differentially tempered and water quenched to produce a true crystalline structure temper line with “activity” known in Japanese as the “hamon”. The Kasane Tetsu process results in a tough blade with a spectacular natural hamon and hada. This is a robust blade that is well balanced with additional strength for those engage in actual cutting practice with a tanto. This blade is also available in historically accurate and subtly beautiful Tamahagane steel.
